As it happens always in India , a blockbuster releases on a Friday....this was same in the case for this league too.... In the case of bollywood releases the fate of the movie is known within 3 to 4 days of the opening but IPL will come to know its at the end of the competition ... I saw an expert comparing IPL's origin to that of English premier League in one of the leading news channels but iam quite reserved about this ideology...the English Premier League was an advent of a very low period in English football specially after the Heysel stadium disaster in Brussels but Indian cricket is on a high both on and off the field ever since the 20-20 win in south africa ..... i was going thru a coloumn by tim de lisle where he quoted "such "silly money" is "disgusting" in a country that "encompasses a great deal of poverty"..... In my opinion the IPL has taken Indian cricket to newer levels ....why i say this is because who would have thought virat kohli getting applauded by likes of dravid and kallis , a crowd of 50000 in mumbai's wankhade rooting for Abhishek Nayar ......!!!!! who was abhishek nayar a week back...lolz???? Mr lalit Modi's dream project may have had a dream start but is going to do wonders at the grass root level as far as the domestic crcuit is concerned in india.....!!!! A common complaint about the IPL centres around the money paid to individual cricketers. Does Rohit Sharma really deserve more than Ricky Ponting??? Are the men paying Ishant Sharma more than Dale Steyn and Glenn McGrath making a silly mistake??? i quite agree to with what Mr Harsha Bhogle quoted " for a strong IPL there is need for a stronger ICL " and iam pretty sure that Mr Modi wont like this statement at all....!!!!If the IPL becomes what the franchise owners hope it will be, there will need to be more teams, more matches, longer seasons. That will be inevitable if this is a big hit in the first year because franchises will be looking for returns on investment and a longer season might benefit them..... I wonder what will happen to the international calender.....!!!! If you give me a choice between 20-20's and test cricket ......Iam a firm believer of the old school of cricket ie tests as it is the ultimate test of your cricketing skills and character..... but 20-20 is a undoubted entertainer....Now keeping apart all these issues of IPL and stuff and coming to the franchise i support......'' undoubtedly kolkata knight riders" and the people who know me better will know the reason behind this too....and my friends from Delhi tried to ''senti" me on the fact that i have been a delhite since birth and stuff.....but iam bengali at heart and dada is much closer to my heart than sehwag....lolz....now for the first time when me and four of my friends were watching the IPL stuff our opinions were clearly divided and we were on top of our voices.....that has seldom happened and the impact of ipl is clearly to be noticed.....in whichever way u c it......hehehe!!!! i will like to conclude with some punchlines
to all my chennai friends for the superkings " naama team kandipa Jeyikum"
to all my delhi friends for the daredevils " todenge phodenge , apne sheher ka nam roshan karenge"
to all my bengali friends " korbo lorbo jitbo re ,ami kolkata we rule"
